The Green Bottle Method
The Green Bottle Method is an economic justice tool and helpful graphic created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk to guide decision making surrounding sliding scale options, and which one suits you best.
How to use The Green Bottle
Utilize the three bottles to reflect on your personal financial situation and economic privilege.
If you can comfortably meet your basic needs*, are able to pay for things that you want, and spend little time worrying about securing necessities in your life, this may suggest that you have economic privilege, and that the full price of services is for you.
Folks who find themselves in the middle range (the middle bottle) may also be struggling to overcome debt, build savings, or move away from living paycheck to paycheck. They may also have access to a steady income and are not spending most of their time thinking about meeting their basic needs*. Folks in this middle range may consider paying the mid-range price for services.
Folks who find themselves relating to the bottle on the right may consider paying the lowest available price of services. This bottle represents an acknowledgment that there are folks whose economic circumstances would prevent them from accessing this service.
When applying this framework to my services, please consider what is suitable for you, while also taking into considering the energy and expertise that I bring to this space. The top end of the scale ensures that I am being paid for the work that I do, while also sustaining those who may only be able to access the services at the lower end of the scale. In this way, those with more economic privilege are directly supporting other folks within their community to have access to mental health services.
